I wouldnt mind if the Penguins claimed Ty Rattie. A low risk investment would be good with me. Wouldnt be shocked if a team claimed him before the Penguins can.
The Oilers wasting a generational player's talent is remarkable. Very few organizations could do it, but boy did the Oilers find a way. The list of remarkable moves is stunning:
-Trading Hall for Larsson
-Trading Eberle for Spooner
-Signing Lucic and then playing him with McDavid
-Signing Kris Russell
That combined with guys drafted underperforming/not working out like Yakupov is a receipe for disaster. Absolutely remarkable. |

I feel bad for McDavid. The best player in the world on the worst team in the NHL because the leagues worst GM is in charge of it. What a dumpster fire. |

it's literally the only thing that makes me feel better about being an Ottawa fan
Dorion is awful, but if Chiarelli had traded karlsson we would have only got Tierney and a 2nd rd pick |

Hahahaha Would he even have been there for as long as he was if Chia was GM? |

Where would you even play a guy like Rattie? Simon is probably lowest on the top 3 line wing totem pole and he's been a solid player who hangs around .5 ppg. Rattie would just be another Sprong here that didn't have a place to use his skill. |

I’m not sure Rattie has any potential anymore. He’s been in some bad developmental situations, sure, but he’s been really bad and is now 25. |

That's a fair argument. When we got Justin Schultz, he was 25 years old and many thought he would never come close to his potential. Granted, defensemen like him take a little bit longer to develop, so you could make the argument that EDM dumped him too quickly... i think the point remains. Personally, where do i think he'd fit? I'd much rather see him on the 4th line than the guy we acquired from ANA or Garrett Wilson. He's on a 1 year deal so worst case is you cut him loose at the end of the year. |

Throw him on LW with Sid and Guentzel BECAUSE WE CAN. If it works, great, if it doesn’t well then who cares.
Also, Brass and a 5th for Spezza (salary retained) |

Could be a Maroon scenario in that case, where he's useless until you put him on a line with a generational talent. Could work. |

It’s unfortunate the league’s best star has to play in a small market with total buffoons running the operation. - Ryan_Wilson

Guess I just wouldn't demote Simon to give Rattie a chance, especially one on our top line. I'm more into giving chances to waiver players if a team has a gaping hole which we do not at wing. |

The thing about Schultz, though, is that he always put up points. He wasn't a total bust, just absolutely sucked in his own end, and honestly that deficiency hasn't really disappeared since coming to Pitt, just been mitigated by better players around him and much, much better goaltending. So Schultz's game had NHL useful traits to it, just his defensive woes on a bad team was threatening to bust him out.
Rattie on the other hand doesn't have a part of his game that's NHL useful right now. He doesn't put up points and he sucks at defense. He's been an all around bust so far in a way Schultz was not at his age. |

Are we seriously talking about Rattie again?
WTF is it about these reclamation projects that people are obsessed about? |

Very low risk with chance of reward. If it doesn't work out, waive him again. |

I have to wonder if the Senators' problem is more Melnyk than Dorion - much like how the problem with the Pirates is much more the owner Bob Nutting than it is the GM. If the GM's hands are tied by an exceptionally and ruthlessly cheap owner the GM can only do so much. |

No to Rattie. After he doesn't work out I'm sure Mario and Burkle don't want to be paying a player like him $800k to be in AHL. |

Schultz was always good. He was just forced to be playing in a role above his level. His ceiling is 2nd pairing. He was being played like a Letang and that’s not who he is. |

Now that you mention Yak, its really been a string of bad GMs, with this one outdoing his predecessors. The talent exodus rivals biblical proportions. Ultimately guys running the upper-house like nicholson & co need to hit the door. Upfront CmD, Drai and Nuge are the only people of value. And (frank) no to rattie |

I think melnyk is the bigger problem for sure........that being said, he’s made some horrible moves that had nothing to do with money.
I think dorion is a great scout, prob a decent assistant GM, but shouldn’t be the man in charge. |

But why? He literally makes no more sense than any random player out there.
There’s such a weird infatuation with this guy from some people on here. He’s a former 2nd round pick from 20 (frank)in 11.
Saying it’s no risk is true for anyone on a contract like his. |
